1. What is your favorite part of the Chicago Yarn Crawl?
I love the diverse range of yarn shops the Chicagoland area has to explore, each with its own unique atmosphere and selection of yarn. It’s such a treat to get out and meet fellow yarn enthusiasts, and have that shared experience.
2. How long have you been in business and how did you get started?
Bolly’s Hobbies is one of the new kids on the block! During the pandemic-induced confinement, I rediscovered my passion for crafting, unleashing boundless creativity. As I transitioned back to work, the conviction solidified: what better way to immerse myself in crafting than by opening a haven for fellow enthusiasts? It’s been immensely fulfilling to enrich my neighborhood with a venue for creativity and community.
3. What makes your shop unique?
I’ve tried to create a space that is like a home away from home. We have a lounge in the rear of the store where everyone is welcome. After all, crafting loves company. The lounge sports a comfy couch and photos on the walls of family and friends who have inspired me and supported me. We have a generous selection of high quality but low cost yarns. There is really something for everyone’s budget. We also have a calendar full of distinctive class offerings.
4. What is your favorite part of being an LYS owner?
My favorite part of being a Local Yarn Shop owner is the opportunity to cultivate a vibrant community of yarn lovers. I get to be in the company of knitting, crocheting, and other needlework artists who are just as enthusiastic about crafting as I am. Additionally, being a LYS owner makes a substantial positive contribution to a neighborhood I enjoy living in. It’s very gratifying to work with artisans and small yarn producers so that we all get to do more of what we love. And by education others I get to play a bit part in preserving fiber arts for future generations.
