Get to Know Sister-Arts Studio

1. What is your favorite part of the Chicago Yarn Crawl?

We love seeing the expressions of joy and excitement shared by our Yarn Crawlers! And this year is a very special year with the 10th Anniversary of the Chicago Yarn Crawl, our shop's 15th Anniversary & my 60th birthday!!!!

2. How long have you been in business and how did you get started?

Sister-Arts Studio is excited and proud to be in our 15th year of business! I started the business in 2004 after a successful 21-year career as a licensed Interior Architect at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. It was time for a change of pace and an extra dose of creativity!

3. What makes your shop unique?

We love color: experimenting with color, adding pop colors to tried-and-true designs, and providing our customers with color consultations! We also prioritize teaching the fiber-arts to children as well as to adults! We are passionate about introducing the arts to the next generation so we teach knitting to students ages 7+ in after school programs, we teach parent and child knitting in the studio and we host a fiber-art summer camp 10 months throughout the summer.

4. What is your favorite part of being an LYS owner?

I love connecting with our customers and discussing their knitting/crochet journeys; when they learned, who taught them, what they have on the needles and seeing their projects in-progress! I am impressed by their beautiful finished projects and the increasing amount of talented knitters and crocheters in our community.
