1. What is your favorite part of the Chicago Yarn Crawl?

My favorite part of the Chicago Yarn Crawl is watching groups of friends shopping together, sometimes meeting up from long distances. It is always a joyful time.

2. How long have you been in business and how did you get started?

We are brand new!  We opened April 14, 2023, and it was a dream of mine to one day work in my own store. I can hardly believe my eyes when I drive to work every day!  My kids are growing up and I was finally in a position to launch a business. So I gathered my fiber friends around me, and began to search for a space and talk to suppliers. When I found my space, I just knew that was home and I took a deep breath and signed the lease.

3. What makes your shop unique?

Our shop carries a few brands that are difficult to find: Boutique les Garcons, Maison Corlene, Beehive Yarn Uk, and we welcomed our artist in residence, Gnome Depot Fiber, to join us in our new dye room. Grace Cocking sells her yarn that she dyes in house from her own colorways, but she is also going to curate a store line for TBS as well. I designed the store to resemble my favorite French pastry shop because I wanted to add a bright and cheerful storefront to the neighborhood. I love knitting in our picture window overlooking the park.

4. What is your favorite part of being an LYS owner?

I absolutely love being the owner of a gathering place for makers. It energizes me to be constantly surrounded by creative people who are supportive of one another and their craft. I know that my neighborhood is better for having a craft center and I’m proud to be able to bring that to Portage Park.
